Masterly is Gigs' embedded design team for marketing and sales. When a lead enters Gigs' pipeline, we package the sales assets that specific lead needs, and Gigs' team takes them into the deal. Two deals from this pipeline closed publicly in 2026: Santander's in-app eSIM launch and Motorola's Global Connect.

**Key takeaways**

- Masterly works inside Gigs' sales pipeline as an embedded design team: when a lead enters, the assets that lead needs are already being packaged.
- Gigs closed two public launches from this pipeline in 2026 — Santander's in-app eSIM across Spain, Portugal, and Mexico, and Motorola's Global Connect.
- The embedded model buys context, not just capacity: the same designers stay inside the same pipeline, so work starts without re-briefing.

## Overview

Gigs runs the operating system for embedded mobile services. Companies use it to sell phone plans and travel data inside their own products instead of building telecom infrastructure themselves. Founded in 2020, Gigs is backed by Ribbit Capital, Google, and Y Combinator, with personal investments from the CEOs of Uber, DoorDash, and OpenAI. Revolut, Klarna, Nubank, and NETGEAR build on it.

## What We Do

When a lead enters Gigs' pipeline, we package the sales assets that specific lead needs, and Gigs' team takes them into the deal. The process is Gigs' own. We plugged into it and strengthened its execution.

## The Result

Gigs closed two deals from this pipeline publicly this year, both with category leaders.

Santander, one of the world's largest banks, launched eSIM connectivity inside its own banking app in August 2026, starting in Spain, with Portugal and Mexico next. Motorola launched Global Connect in July 2026 and became the first major device brand to make travel connectivity a native smartphone feature, live from setup.

Two verticals, two category leaders, one pipeline, the same year. Our team worked inside both deals as they moved to close.

## The Model

Embedded design means we work on the pipeline's schedule, not an agency queue. Month after month inside the same sales motion, our designers keep the context that a normal engagement re-explains with every brief: the category, the buyers, the shape of the offer. The engagement with Gigs is ongoing.

If your design need runs continuously instead of ending at a deliverable, [that is the model we run](https://www.themasterly.com/services/embedded-design-team).

## FAQ

**What is an embedded design team?**

An embedded design team works inside a client's team instead of taking briefs from outside it. The designers join the same rituals, see the same pipeline, and produce work on the client's schedule rather than an agency queue. For a sales organization that means design shows up while a deal is live, not two weeks after someone asked for it.

**How is an embedded design team different from an agency retainer?**

A retainer buys hours against a backlog. Embedding buys context. After a few months inside the same pipeline, our designers know the category, the buyer, and the objections well enough to start without a written brief. The cost looks similar. What changes is how much explaining happens before work starts.

**Can a design agency work inside enterprise deals under confidentiality?**

Yes, and most of that work never becomes public. Everything produced inside a live deal belongs to the client and their sales process. What an agency can publish is limited to material the client has already released, which is how we scoped this case study. Fintech and telecom engagements run this way as a rule.

**Does Masterly work as an embedded design team?**

Yes. Alongside fixed-scope projects, we run ongoing embedded engagements where our designers work as part of a client's marketing, sales, or product team. It is the model behind our work with Gigs, and it fits companies whose design need never stops at a single deliverable.
